Our Family Cats

We have nine cats in our family. Our cats consist of five males and four females. They range in age from 3 to 13 years old. Their favorite toys are boot laces and a pull off ring from the top of a milk jug. They also enjoy playing with toy mice and fabric balls. Thier names are Cowboy, Cheyanne, Tami, Stormy, Gus, Gizmo, Snickers, Jasmine and Teddy.

Cowboy

Cowboy joined our happy family in October of 1999. He had belonged to friends of my daughter's and they couldn't keep him anymore. We offered to take him..especially since we already had his sister, Cheyanne. He is a gorgeous male Tuxedo being all white with black spots. He even has a black 'moustach'. He was named Cowboy by his previous owner... and it suits him well. Cowboy is half Siamese and has that wonderful temperment (lovey when he wants to be, otherwise fiesty and very verbal)!!! He was extremely mean when we first got him and hid out for almost two weeks. It took him three months to adapt to his new home and start coming around. It was a long haul, but with extreme patience and love, Cowboy changed. He is like a different cat today, very trusting and loving. He is the best jumper in the house, clearing a 7 foot jump with ease. He tends to 'pace' the house quite often. Cowboy is the funniest cat just to watch. He likes to play with his 'imaginary' friend. He will tear through the house like he is chasing something and then do a graceful double flip to turn around and face his invisible playmate. Not only that, but he is very verbal while he is performing this strange and amusing act. He also likes to stretch up a wall, turn his head in the almost upside down position and yowl. Unfornately, this strikingly gorgeous cat urinates on our floor. We found out that he has a smaller than usual bladder, his bladder valves are not working properly and he easily gets infections. I love Cowboy so much, that I couldn't get rid of him. I have to admit, that after he is gone; I will cry horribly, yet breathe a sigh of relief that I will no longer have top clean up his messes. Cowboy turned 11 years old in April of 2008.

Cheyanne

We aquired Cheyanne when she was 6 weeks old. My daughter had been over to a friends house that had kittens. My daughter said they had a kitten that she just had to have. We went to see the kitten and when my daughter picked her up, the kitten snuggled in her arms. It didn't take much to 'talk us into it'. Cheyanne is an all black female cat and is half Siamese (her mother was also all black). I have been told that there is no such thing as an all black cat, that you can find a least one hair that is not black. Cheyanne proves this to be a wives tale; she even has a black nose and black paw pads. She is extremely smart, very feminine and dainty with a soft higher pitched 'meow'. Her Burmese nature tends towards the devotion, smartness and extreme quickness. She is not the most attractive cat. She has a shorter body with extremely long long hind legs. Her eyes and ears are small for her face. What really makes her odd looking are her copper colored eyes (not the normal green). Her personality makes up for her odd appearance. She is the sweetest cat in the house and has fur that feels like silk. She does not like strangers and disappears when we have visitors. Because of this...she has aquired the nickname shy-shy. She is also our fly catcher. She can find a fly and in one swift and graceful move, catch it and eat it. Cheyanne turned 11 years old in April of 2008.

Tami

We aquired Tami when she was 5 weeks old. My co-worker and friend, Tami, told me the local pet shop had kittens. We decided to stop over lunch hour and see them. There was a very sweet female silver tabby that I fell in love with. The owner of the pet shop told us we could take it back to the office for the afternoon. My co-worker had to run some office erands and when she returned, she told me, Happy Birthday...I paid for the kitten and it's yours. I decided to name the kitten Tami in appreciation for my friend's kindness. Tami is very petite for a female and weighs 6 pounds. She loves to explore and get into things. Her smaller than average size enables her to fit into nooks and crannies that I can barely fit my hand in. She likes to climb and loves to stand and walk on our shoulders. She also likes to snuggle up close to our face when we are holding her. She likes to talk back when she is being scolded, but is a very sweet and loving cat. She still loves to play and is extremely fast and graceful. Tami is cautious around visitors and will hiss or growl if approached too fast by a stranger. Tami will play with anything she finds on the floor and does it very verbally! Tami turned 5 years old in March of 2008.

Stormy

We aquired Stormy when he was 5 weeks old. My friend told me the local pet shop had Siamese kittens. When my husband found out, he had to go check them out. My husband brought home this cute little Chocolate Point Siamese male kitten and decided to name him Stormy. Stormy had severe diahrea and we ended up taking him to the vets. Stormy is Lactose(milk) intolerate which led to severe intestional swelling. Stormy was put on a special diet until his condition improved and is now eating regular cat food. Stormy is not a very big, but he is pure muscle. Stormy is very verbal like most Siamese and likes to 'talk'. He is whiney if he is not in the mood for attention. Stormy is overbearing when he does want attention, but has to take several seconds to sniff you before he will take the attention. Like most Siamese cats, Stormy is very skitterish. If you drop something, he will jump and run; even if he is at the other end of the house! His Siamese attitude has earned him the nickname 'little jerk'. He also gets called 'little man' because he is the smallest male in our house, but very beefy for his size. When he does want attention and returns your love, he will melt your heart. Stormy is mesmerizing when he looks at you with those beautiful jeweled deep blue eyes. Everyone who visits wants to take Stormy home. Stormy will play with just about any toy, but his favorites are the small stuffed animals. Stormy turned 5 years old in April of 2008.

Gus

We aquired Gus in January of 2004. Gus is a beautiful brown tabby male. I found an ad in the newspaper for a free cat. For some reason, I could not resist the urge to call. Upon calling, I instantly liked Sheri, the lady who owned Gus. She said she was looking for a new home for Gus because her husband was allergic to cats. I can tell that he was well loved and taken care of by Sheri. He is the mellowest cat I have ever owned and is very well behaved. He is happy to be talked to and likes to sit and listen. He loves to be petted , but is not demanding and perfectly happy to wait until we decide to give him some attention. He has the most graceful walk I have ever seen on a male cat. Gus has earned the name 'honey' because he has such a sweet face and sweet personality. Gus has very soft and beautiful green eyes. Gus is diabetic and has to have insulin shots twice a day. He is very co-operative with receiving his shots and medicine. The diabetes has caused his eyes to become cloudy. Gus turned 13 years old in November of 2007.

Gizmo

We aquired Gizmo when he was about 4 to 5 months old in March of 2004. Gizmo is a male cat who is white with tabby patches. We were out shopping for cat furniture and ran across this cute little boy in a pet shop. He had been abandoned and left in an apartment after the tenants moved out. When we first got him, he was still awfully skinny from malnutrition. Gizmo is full of energy, almost too much energy. We have nicknamed him 'pest' because he will force himself on us and the other cats for attention. Basically, the minute you sit down, he is on your lap. He also likes to take swipes at all the cats trying to get them to play. Gizmo is the first cat in the house to greet our visitors. He is extremely curious and is always in the way when you are trying to do something. One can't help but laugh when he watches you and tilts his curious head to the side as if to say, "Why are you doing that?". Gizmo is a huge 15 pound cat with an extremely long and thick tail. Gizmo likes to be picked up and held upside down like a baby. Gizmo loves to play with toy mice and any toy he can chew on. Gizmo turned 4 years old in November of 2007.

Miss Snickers

Snickers joined our family in the summer of 2004. She is a beautiful semi long hair Calico. She has shorter hair around the face and an extremely fluffy tail, more of a Turkish Van breed look. She is average in size and very muscular for a female. She is great with people. She is very affectionate and loves to observe everything you do. She loves to play, especially with people. When she first joined us, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with the other cats and would 'scream' at them if they even looked at her. Snickers spent the first three months in our bedroom away from the other cats. She started wndering out of our room after the first 3 months, but only for an hour or so. She slowly accepted the other cats in the house and actually gets along with most of them pretty well. She is like a completely different cat then when we first got her. She is fast and powerful and it doesn't matter if the cat is twice her size; if they get to close she lunges at them in full fighting force. This sweet and people friendly female has earned the nickname 'Missy', short for Miss Snickers . Miss Snickers' age is unknown, but the Vet estimated that she was about 5 years old in 2004.

Jasmine

Jasmine joined our family in June of 2007. She is a long furred brown tabby with white tipped feet and a white tipped tail. She is a very small female and weighs only about 5 pounds. Her tail is longer than the average cat, fluffy and just beautiful. This beautiful old girl has a bad case of asthma that has caused her to lose most of her hearing. Her deafness causes her to be jumpy as well. We try to pet her only when she is awake and looking at us, otherwise she startles and jumps, scurries off and will hide out for awhile. Jasmine has ongoing 'accidents' that caused her previous owner to relunctantly find a new home for her because it was ruining his home/business property. She was a very well loved cat by her previous owner. Jasmine purrs instantly when you touch her and will lovingly lick your hand while you are petting her. Her favorite toys are ribbons and strings. Jasmine turned 13 years old in March of 2008.

Teddy Bear

Teddy Bear joined our family in May of 2008. This gorgeous guy is a long furred orange tabby with a super large fluffed tail half as wide as his body. He is massive in size and I think he has some Maine Coone in him. I am going to guess that he weighs about 18 pounds and has a full stretch of at least 30 inches...almost up to your hips! His nicknames are Ted, Teddy and Tedders. We got this sweet guy from an advertisement in the paper. His previous owners where an awesome lady named Tonya and her three wonderful daughters. Tonya said they found Teddy under their porch abandoned by his mother when he was very young. Tonya had to bottle feed him and clean up his messes until he became old enough to learn to eat and go potty by himself. Tonya and her girls are very attached to Teddy and it was very hard for them to let him go, but an allergy problem caused them to find a new home for Teddy. I can easily understand how attached they are to Teddy. He has the most perfect personality of any cat I have ever been around. He is the perfect mix of liking to play, gentle, loving, curiousness, talkative and very social with our other cats. Teddy loves to play with milk rings and when he's done playing with them, loves to drop them in the cat food dish. Teddy Bear turned 3 years old in the fall of 2007.
In loving memory of Taz and Mickey. You were such true and great friends. You comforted me when I cried. You made me smile and laugh. Your purr always warmed my heart. You cuddled with me. You always loved me for who I really am. I will always miss you and remember you with the warmest memories.
